McDavid held pointless as Edmonton falls behind in series
The Edmonton Oilers were blanked 3-0 by the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.
Panthers take early lead
The Panthers took an early lead in the first period when Aleksander Barkov scored a power-play goal just 3:49 into the game. The Panthers added to their lead in the second period when Sam Bennett scored a short-handed goal at 11:29. Jonathan Huberdeau added an empty-net goal with 1:09 remaining in the third period to seal the victory.
McDavid held pointless
Connor McDavid, the Oilers' leading scorer in the regular season and playoffs, was held pointless in Game 1. He had five shots on goal and won 10 of 18 faceoffs.
Series shifts to Edmonton
The series now shifts to Edmonton for Game 2 on Saturday night. The Oilers will be looking to tie the series before it heads back to Sunrise for Games 3 and 4.
