Early Life

Joan of Arc was born in 1412 to a peasant family in Domrémy, France. At the age of 13, she began experiencing visions of Saint Michael, Saint Margaret, and Saint Catherine. These visions convinced her that she was destined to lead the French army to victory against the English in the Hundred Years' War.

Military Career

In 1429, Joan of Arc convinced the French king, Charles VII, to allow her to lead the army. She quickly proved herself to be a capable military commander, leading the French to a series of victories. In 1430, she helped liberate Orleans from the English. This victory turned the tide of the war in favor of the French.

Capture and Execution

In 1431, Joan of Arc was captured by the English. She was tried for heresy and witchcraft and sentenced to death by burning at the stake. She was executed on May 30, 1431, at the age of 19.

Legacy

Joan of Arc became a national heroine of France. She is remembered as a symbol of courage, patriotism, and faith. She was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1920. Today, she is one of the most famous and beloved figures in French history.
