Multiple Tornadoes Touch Down in Chicago Area
Damage Reported, Trees Uprooted
At Least Three Tornadoes Confirmed
Multiple tornadoes occurred in northeast Illinois between approximately 5 and 7 PM on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. The National Weather Service has confirmed a total of 13 tornadoes in the area. At least three tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area, damaging homes and uprooting trees. The National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes in Will County and one in Cook County. During the storm, the NWS and the NBC 5 Storm Team confirmed some tornado touchdowns, including a large and extremely dangerous tornado in Will County. This tornado caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure. This is live coverage of the severe weather on July 12th, 2023, as it happened.
