Can Aaron Rodgers Deliver? Dolphins’ Contender Hopes, Tua’s Big Moment
The Miami Dolphins may have found their long-awaited franchise savior in Tua Tagovailoa but an experienced veteran may look to snatch the show
The Miami Dolphins have long been searching for their next franchise quarterback, and they may have finally found him in Tua Tagovailoa. The former Alabama star had a promising rookie season in 2020, completing 64.1% of his passes for 1,814 yards and 11 touchdowns with five interceptions. He also rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown.
Tagovailoa is expected to take a big step forward in his second season, and the Dolphins have surrounded him with a talented supporting cast. They added wide receiver Will Fuller V in free agency and traded for tight end Hunter Henry, giving Tagovailoa two dangerous pass-catching weapons to work with.
However, the Dolphins have a big question mark at the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa is a talented young player, but he has yet to prove that he can stay healthy and be a consistent performer. If Tagovailoa struggles, the Dolphins may turn to veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who they acquired via trade this offseason.
Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer, but he is also 38 years old. It is unclear how much he has left in the tank, and he may not be the long-term answer for the Dolphins. However, he could be a valuable stop-gap option while Tagovailoa continues to develop.
Here is a look at the pros and cons of starting Aaron Rodgers or Tua Tagovailoa in 2022:
